Paul v. Obama, Civil Action No. 14-cv-0262 (RJL) (D.D.C. filed Feb. 14, 2014)This class action, filed by Senator Rand Paul and the conservative organizing group FreedomWorks, seeks a declaration that the telephony metadata program violates the Fourth Amendment, an injunction against the continuation of the program and the purging of all class members’ records from the government’s telephony metadata databases.

On May 2, 2014, the government filed a motion to dismiss.

This Bivens action seeking damages of $1, filed by Libertarian candidate for Congress in Texas, Jaime O. Perez, and legal and civil rights activist Carl Starr, has been assigned to Federal District Judge Kathleen Cardone. Plaintiffs allege that the telephony metadata program violated their First, Fourth and Fifth Amendment rights.
